Gold in the area of tension between heavenly and earthly wealth.
Gold is not a color but a metal that opens up an ideal, space- and timeless sphere through its specific shine as a means of light symbolism.
In the context of art history, gold has always been associated with the concept of transcendence, perfection, holiness - the sublime par excellence.
On the other hand, gold also stands for earthly wealth, for power and royalty, for luxury and exclusivity.
Anyone who wants to deal with gold in the art world moves in this ambivalent field of meanings.
In my pictures, the gold surfaces refer to the Great Unknown, which has no language. They do not address any topics and do not engage in any intellectual discourse.
A gold surface means nothing and represents nothing. But it has an extraordinary presence that cannot be reconciled by anything.
The material gold as a symbol for an unnameable place of longing – somewhere within oneself.
Gold as a symbol of the most precious thing imaginable - something that waits inside us - deep down - waiting to be seen.
